NCTE was recognized, along with other partner organizations, for best practice guidelines around literacy education in arecently reintroduced bicameral resolution by Representative Raskin and Senator Schatzcondemning the alarming rate of book bans ahead of Banned Books Week, October 1–7, 2023.
NCTE and its members have been leaders in the fight against censorship since the early 1950s. Through theIntellectual Freedom Center, NCTE has continued to update itsbook rationale catalog into a searchable database, which now contains over 1,200 book rationales, exploring the importance of diverse perspectives in books.
