Holmes was recently featured onCBS Morningssharing insights on her work, including new research about time and happiness.

Holmes will be interviewed by member-leaders Lisa Scherff and Josh Thompson.

Cassie Holmesis a professor at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, where she is an award-winning teacher and researcher. About the Interviewers

Lisa Scherffbegan her teaching career in 1996. After earning her PhD, she moved to the college level, working 11 years as a teacher educator at the University of Tennessee, the University of Alabama, and Florida State University. She currently teaches English and AP Research at the Community School of Naples.

Scherff has served as president of the Alabama Council of Teachers of English, and she has served NCTE as coeditor ofEnglish Education, chair of the NCTE Assembly for Research, and chair of ALAN’s Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award Committee. In 2020 she began her role as chair of the Secondary Section Steering Committee.

Scherff earned a BA in English and a PhD in reading education from Florida State University and an MA in English from the University of Mississippi. She also holds a graduate certificate in education policy from Florida State University.

Josh Thompsonhas been in education since 2010. He has been a writing center coach, aninstructor of first-year writing, and a high school English teacher. Most recently, he was anEnglish teacher at Blacksburg High School in Virginia, where he taught every levelof course from 9th through 12th grade, including collaborative classes and dual enrollmentcourses.

He has been a member of NCTE since 2013. He has presented at several Annual Conventions and had articles published inEnglish Journal. He will assume the role of chair-elect of the Secondary Section Steering Committee this November. Thompson is an advocate for state affiliates and a proud member of the Virginia Association of Teachers of English. He has presented at several VATE annual conferences, published in theVirginia English Journal, and served on the editorial board of theVirginia English Journal.

Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in English, a master’s in education, and a master’s in English from Virginia Tech. He is currently a student in the English education PhD program at Virginia Tech, where he studies the intersections of teacher education, rural education, and LGBTQ adolescent literacy.
